No. What's great about indoor cycling is that riders control their own speed and resistance, It's a fantastic workout for all fitness levels. If you're new to indoor cycling please let your instructor know. You should arrive 10 -15 minutes early for first time orientation. During that time, your instructor will help you adjust your bike and answer any questions.
Longer shorts, capri exercise pants or bike pants are recommended. Shoes should be flat bottomed- not a running shoe- for best use of pedal straps. For the best workout, riders should wear clip-in shoes. Our bikes have dual pedals that work with SPD cleats.
For maximizing comfort on the bike, the rider should be personally fitted by the instructor. The seat should be at the height of your hip level and can be adjusted closer to or farther from the handlebars. Handlebars can be adjusted for comfort with height and distance from the seat. Always ask your instructor if something feels uncomfortable.
At CycleEssence, we require riders to be 13 and older and at least 4' 10". Our bikes have a maximum user weight of 300 lbs.
As a beginner, the seat and the bike in general require a little getting used to. During this phase it sometimes helps to wear padded bike shorts or use a cushioned gel seat. In a short period of time you won't necessarily need either.
